Former Orlando Magic head coach Brian Hill was dismissed from his position on Wednesday because of, among other things, inflexibility and not being able to communicate with young players. That was the explanation given by Orlando President Mike Vander Weide and Magic General manager Otis Smith as they addressed the media on Thursday. The pair said that Hill was too old school, could not adjust on the fly in game situations, and had a dislike for playing fast break basketball. These are exactly the attributes they are searching for in their next head coach. Hill became the Magic head coach in 2005, which was preceded by an earlier stint that ended in 1997. Hill said he was shocked by the firing, believing that after making the playoffs, albeit with a record of 40-42 he had earned another year. Hill also stated that he was upset that he was never given the chance to implement the changes that the Orlando brain trust wanted.
