Good thing for the Cleveland Cavaliers that NBA games are four quarters, and not just three. For the fourth consecutive games, Cleveland went stone cold in the third seeing a 50-43 lead at the half over the Detroit Pistons turn to a 67-65 deficit.
But for the second consecutive game Cavaliers forward LeBron James had a monster fourth quarter scoring 13 of his 25 points, and leading his team to victory 91-87. With the win Cleveland ties their Eastern Conference Finals series at two games each.
Cavaliers rookie point guard Daniel Gibson who gained a lot of playing time with Larry Hughes suffering from a torn heel muscle came up big. Gibson scored 21 points a season high sinking 12 from the charity stripe. Hughes who was doubtful as to his playing status did start the game giving Cleveland a morale lift. Drew Gooden also came up big with 19 points and a huge steal late in the fourth quarter.
In a series that is turning eerily reminiscent of last year’s Eastern Conference Semi Final series, the two teams now head back to Detroit, where Cleveland won game five last year seemingly giving them the series momentum. But they lost a close game six in Cleveland, and were never really a factor in game seven in Detroit. The question remains if Cleveland is able to utilize the experience they gained last year, to their advantage.
Detroit was led by their back court Chauncy Billups with 23 points, and Richard Hamilton with 19. But Detroit did not play with the confidence down the end that they displayed in the first two games in Auburn Hills. Whether that confidence returns in key moment in game five remains to be seen.

Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Larry Hughes will most likely miss game four of the NBA Eastern Conference Final Series between his team the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night. The reason is a plantar fascia strain , which is basically Latin for a sore heel.
If Hughes is incapacitated, it is most likely that rookie guard Daniel Gibson would get the start in Hughes’ absence. Gibson came up big for Cleveland in game three, and has gained a huge supporter in team superstar LeBron James. Gibson, came off the bench in game three playing 29 minutes, and scoring nine points. The Pistons lead the series 2-1.

Spurs One Win Away From Finals Top Jazz 91-79
Filed Under Main | Leave a Comment
The San Antonio Spurs are just one win away from the NBA Finals as they defeated the Utah Jazz 91-79 Monday night. They have now taken a commanding 3-1 lead in their best of seven series. Jazz coach Jerry Sloan was not around for the end of the game, as he got himself ejected in the middle of the fourth quarter. The way his team faded down the stretch in what had been up until that point had been a closely played contest, probably made Sloan happy that he did not have to watch the end of the game up close.
Jazz point guard Deron Williams who missed the morning shoot around with a case of an intestinal flu, kept his team in the game as he was the high scorer for both sides with 27 points 10 assists and three steals. But power forward Carlos Boozer was not able to elevate his game scoring 18, and grabbing only 9 rebounds. San Antonio sixth man Manu Ginobli again paced hi team with 22 points and 6 boards. Game five will shift back to San Antonio, if the Spurs do make the finals it will be their third time there in the past five years.

LBJ Carries Cleveland Past Detroit 88-82
Filed Under Main | Leave a Comment

Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James was criticized in the first two games of his team’s series against the Detroit Pistons for not being aggressive enough. Consequently Cleveland lost the first two games to Detroit, and found themselves in a pretty deep hole as the series switched venues to Cleveland.
James, himself said before game three that in order for his team to get back in the series, he had to take a more dominant role. Sunday night, he did exactly that scoring 32 points, with 9 rebounds and 9 assists as Cleveland won their first game of the series 88-82. James was 12-21 from the field, 2-3 from three point range and drove to the basket as if his life depended on it, especially in the fourth quarter when he scored 12 points.
Cleveland had four of their five starters in double figures, and rookie point guard Daniel Gibson came off the bench to score nine, and lead the team down the stretch. The win puts Cleveland back into the series with game four in Cleveland on Tuesday.

Lewis Will Test Free Agent Waters
Filed Under Main | Leave a Comment

Seattle Supersonics forward Rashard Lewis has decided to opt out of the last two years of his contract, and test the free agent waters. However he says the move does not preclude him from signing a new deal with Seattle. Lewis’ agent Tony Dutt who is based in Houston, made the announcement Friday night that he and his client had informed the club in writing they had decided to take the opt out clause. By voiding the deal they leave a guaranteed $21 million on the table.
There have been rumors that Lewis may stay in the Pacific Northwest, but with another team. The Portland Trail Blazers are known to have interest in Lewis, and they currently have two restricted, and two unrestricted free agents from last years roster. Jamal Magloire, and Ime Udoka are both in the unrestricted category, so they can sign with any team, and Portland would get no compensation. Luke Schenscher, and Travis Outlaw are both restricted free agents, so Portland could match any offer sheet by any other franchise. So in all actuality they will probably have money to sign a high priced free agent. Speculation is that Lewis could command as much as $15 million per year, dwarfing the guaranteed sum that he has left behind.
Portland also has two other options that Lewis may find attractive. Number one is the fact that the Trail Blazers have the first pick in the NBA Draft which they will use on either Greg Oden or Kevin Durant, although early odds favor their picking Oden. Second reason is Portland’s coach is Nate McMillan, Lewis’ former coach in Seattle who he has a good relationship. However, he has stated that he has loyalty to the team that drafted him in 1998.
