Donovan Introduced As New Magic Coach
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
Calling it a different challenge and a different way of life, Billy Donovan took on his new responsibilities as head coach of the NBA franchsie the Orlando Magic. Donovan, as he was introduced to the media, and the fans of Orlando said his decision to move to the NBA had nothing to do with any lack of satisfaction as head coach of the University of Florida. “I think if I was to have left Florida for another college job, I think you could say, ‘What was wrong?” Donovan stated at his introductory press conference.”But I had an opportunity to leave for another college job. This is a totally different environment, a different challenge, a different way of life, a different style altogether.”
Donovan reportedly was signed to a five year pact with the Magic, believed to be worth $27.5 million. He had led the Gators to back to back NCAA championships the past two seasons. Donovan joins a myriad of former College Coaches who have made the jump to the pros including former boss Rick Pitino. Unfortunately, very few college coaches have found success in making the transition.
