Not Meant To Be: Donovan And Magic Part Ways

As reported on Monday, Billy Donovan who signed a five year deal with the Orlando Magic to be their new head coach last week, was having second thoughts. On Tuesday, the matter was resolved, Donovan will not join the Magic, but instead will remain head coach at the University Of Florida.

Donovan, who was introduced to the Orlando media, and fans last week, said at the time he was looking forward to the new challenges and new lifestyle that the NBA would provide him. However, over the weekend, Donovan had an emotional press conference?in Gainesville, and apparently he was very conflicted after that.

Donovan, realizing that he would miss the college atmosphere, and? his realtionship with? associates and players, made it clear to the Magic Monday, that his heart was still in Gainesville. Now the lawyers will work out the details to close this rather strange chapter. There has been no speculation, about who Orlando may go after to now fill the void.
