Spurs Take Game One Beat Cavaliers 85-76
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
Welcome To The World Of Gentleman, Gentleman. The San Antonio Spurs were not exactly gracious hosts, as they inauguarated the Cleveland Cavaliers to the NBA Finals winning Game One by a score of 85-76 Thursday night in front of their home crowd. The Cavaliers were able to keep it close through the first half, as San Antonio only led by the score of 40-35. Although Cavaliers forward LeBron James did not look for his own shot in the first half, he basically played point forward running the offense and feeding his teammates.
But San Antonio showed who was the master and who was the disciple in the second half, as their experience winning NBA Titles came through. Much has been made since this matchup came about that Cavaliers coach Mike Brown, and General Manager Danny Ferry learned at the knee, of Spurs coach Greg Popovich. That post season experience and discipline was the difference in the second half.
Cavaliers forward Drew Gooden, who was not a major factor offensively in the first half came out on fire in the third quarter. But he allowed his emotions to master the moment as he commited a flagrant one foul against San Antonio guard Manu Ginobli and the momentum seemed to shift at that point. San Antonio point guard Tony Parker showed why he is one of the elite point guards in the NBA.scoring 27 points with 7 assists and boards. Tim Duncan had 24 points and 13 rebounds for San Antonio.
Cleveland was led offensively by rookie point guard Daniel Gibson who had 16 points off the bench. James by far did not have the game he wanted scoring only 14 but more importantly getting only four assists and seven boards while turning the ball over six times. The Cavaliers have until Sunday to regroup and get their bearings, when they will match up with the Spurs for Game 2.
