Billups Agent Denies Deal Is Imminent

The agent for Detroit point guard Chauncey Billups is denying reports published on Tuesday, that said the Pistons and Billups had come to terms on a pact for five years with four of the years guaranteed.?Miller called the published reports a “vicious rumor”, saying that the team and his client were in the midst of ongoing negotiations, but he did not believe that the two?sides were close to a pact. He also stated that he thought it was highly doubtful that the two sides would reach any agreement on Tuesday, or Wednesday.?The? original reports credit the usual “anonymous source with knowledge of the deal” as saying that Billups can earn up to $60 million if Detroit exercizes? the club option in the fifth year. Billups really has become one of the elite point guards in the NBA since joining the Pistons, after being a nomad his first few years in the league.? Billups was the NBA Finals MVP in 2004. No NBA deal can be officially announced until July 11.?As to how long before Billups and Detroit will come to terms Miller’s response was “I don’t know how long it’s going to take.”
