Former NBA center Patrick Ewing was hired Tuesday as an assistant coach, one of four assistants Orlando Magic new head coach Stan Van Gundy brought on to fill out his staff. Also hired as assistants, veteran assistant Brendan Malone, Steve Clifford, and Bob Beyer.  Ewing, the  New York Knicks All-Star center during the mid eighties and into the nineties, had been an assistant under Rudy Tomjanovich in Houston from 2004-2006, and also served a stint on the Washington wizards coaching staff. Van Gundy was hired by Orlando last month after a deal with University of Florida coach Billy Donovan went sour.
