Reports That Donaghy Will Turn Himself In To Federal Officials

Reports published in the New York Times on Monday, quoted an unnamed law enforcement official as stating that NBA referee will turn himself into law enforcement officers as early as Tuesday or Wednesday. The reports also state that two as they classified them “low level bookmakers” would be arrested soon after Donaghy surrenders to authorities. Donaghy is being investigated by a Federal Grand Jury and Federal Officials on charges that he or his “associates” may have bet on NBA games, or that Donaghy may have “fixed” games. In a related story the Times also reported that NBA Players Union President Billy Hunter received an E-Mail from the league offices asking to conduct a background check on him last Friday. The league offices later spoke to his secretary saying that the E-Mail was sent inadvertently, that it was meant only to be sent to NBA referees.
