Nuggets “Welcome Back Carter”
Filed Under Main | Leave a Comment
On Wednesday the Denver Nuggets cut backup guard Anthony Carter. On Friday they signed a backup guard, Anthony Carter. Yes the same Anthony Carter they had cut two days earlier. No explanation from the team as of yet why the situation seemed to sour and then turn around so quickly. The 32 year old 6′2″ guard is expected to be the primary backup for Chucky Atkins. As?I wrote on?Wednesday with all the NBA teams needing backcourt bench strength, if Carter is healthy he will not be unemployed for long. I just did not expect it to be the same team.

Former University of Maryland, and former NBA forward Lonny Baxter was sentenced to sixty days behind bars for illegal shipment of guns. Baxter who was arrested and?jailed in 2006 for shooting off a gun near the White House is currently playing in Spain. Baxter told U.S. District Court Judge Peter Messitte that he is obsessed with guns. Messitte said the sentence was based on?Baxter’s history. The Judge said that Baxter had basically injured himself with the crime, and he was in effect on injured reserve. Baxter last played in the NBA with the Charlotte Bobcats in the 2005-2006 season. When asked why Baxter was no longer with the Bobcats the next season an official with the team said that his contract had run out and Charlotte chose not to re-sign him. Team USA will go into Saturday’s FIBA Championship of the Americas semi-final as the number one seed after defeating Argentina 91-76 Thursday night. Although?it was the USA team’s smallest margin of victory, the game was never in doubt (anytime that Bill Walton tells you half through the second quarter that Argentina is Spanish for silver you have a pretty one sided game.) Both?teams came into the game with 6-0 records, Team USA will play the fourth seed Puerto Rico while Argentina will play third seed Brazil. Leading the?way for Team USA was Kobe Bryant who scored 27 15 in the first quarter. Carmelo Anthony put in 18 and LeBron James contributed with 15. Team Argentina was without a lot of their top players including Manu Ginobli, Fabricio Oberto, and Andres Nocioni. Luis Scola led Argentina with 20.?

This “contest” can be summed up very simply, Uruguay cut Team USA’s lead in the the waning minutes of the first quarter to five at 24-19 Wednesday night. At that point the USA players looked at each other and said it’s time to get serious gentleman. They then proceeded to score seven unanswered points until Uruguay scored the last two points of the quarter. Team USA led 31-21, and Team Uruguay would never be that close again, as the “contest” was over, and USA went on to a one sided 118-79 victory. LeBron James must have thought he was in Detroit, because he put on a?performance in the first half that looked like his Game Five in the Eastern Conference Finals. LBJ went 11-11 for 26 points, and never had to leave the bench in the second half. Amare Stoudamire finished with 19 points. Team USA will take on Argentina the only other unbeaten team in the FIBA?Championship of the Americas Thursday night.
