This is either brilliant, or Danny Ainge done lost his mind!! The Boston Celtics are trying to pull a “Marty McFly” and go back to the future to bring former Indiana Pacers superstar Reggie Miller out of retirement to play for Boston this season. The Celtics who went from NBA East afterthought to legitimate contender in the last few weeks, have spoken with Miller as he confirmed on Wednesday. Miller said he was flattered to be contacted and to be thought of as somebody who could help a NBA team contend for a title. He went on to say that he has limited talks with Boston management on their roster and what kind of a role he could fill for them. He also said that he was enjoying his current job as a TV Analyst on NBA broadcasts. Boston’s head of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge also confirmed that talks have taken place, however Miller’s agent Arn Tellem would not comment.

Miller retired after playing 18 years for the Pacers in 2005. He is 42 years old now and has been an Analyst for TNT NBA broadcasts. However, both sides acknowledged the fact that Miller still has that itch to attain the NBA Championship that always was just out of his grasp. The Celtics who now have an “Elite Three” (Danny, you said that you did not approve of calling these players the “Big Three” so we will adhere to your wishes) in Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce now have a great nucleus. The Boston plan would be to use Miller as the backup to Allen, and in key situations down the stretch or in the playoffs. The Celtics starting five as of right now are the three previously mentioned players with Kendrick Perkins at center, and second year player Rajon Rondo at the point. Boston currently has a nine man roster with two unsigned draft picks in Gabe Pruitt and Glen “Big Baby” Davis. Ainge said that Boston was not done building at the Garnett press conference. A legitimate point guard would be a big addition Danny.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Pacer fans receive Reggie if he comes back with the Celts. I think there would be a boo or two in the crowd.
