The Harris County Medical Examiner’s office out of Houston revealed on Tuesday, that former Minnesota Timberwolves forward Eddie Griffin died last week in a fiery explosion as his SUV collided with a train. Griffin’s body was so badly burned that it took dental records to identify him. Griffin according to Houston police ignored a warning sign and went through a barrier before colliding with the train at about 1:30 AM Friday morning.

Griffin who was waived by the T-Wolves back in March had a history of alcohol related problems, and spent some time in the Betty Ford Clinic in 2003-2004. After spending his first two years in the NBA with the Rockets, and the Nets, Griffin signed with Minnesota as a free agent prior to the 2004 campaign. Griffin was only 25 years old.
