The NBA?confirmed on Thursday that they have fined Seattle SuperSonics Co-Owner Aubrey McClendon for making statements earlier this month about moving the team to Oklahoma City. The league fined McClendon $250,000 for his telling reporters that the plan all along was to move the franchise to Oklahoma?City when the group he is involved with purchased the team. McClendon said that the franchise could be more profitable it stays in Seattle with a new arena. NBA spokesman Mark Broussard acknowledged that McClendon had been fined but said he was not exactly sure why the fine was issued. McClendon who is the head man at Chesapeake Energy made the statements to a reporter from the Oklahoma Journal Record earlier in August.? Managing partner Clay Bennett released a statement the following day that McClendon was speaking on his own?and that was not the Ownership Group’s plan when they initially bought the team. Bennett, has warned Seattle city leaders that if they do not get a new facility that he will have no choice but to move the team.
