The Miami Herald reported on Friday that Miami Heat head coach Pat Riley does not expect veteran point guard Gary Payton to play for his team in the upcoming season. According to the reports Riley said that Payton who played the last two of his 17 NBA seasons in Miami and helped them win the NBA Championship in 2006 is not expected to return. There has been talk of his possibly being ready for retirement, there is also the possibility of him rejoining the Boston Celtics with whom he played with earlier this decade. The Celtics are in need of a steady point guard, and Boston President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge, and coach Doc Rivers have an established relationship with Payton. Payton nor his representatives have been available for comment.
