Blazers Expect Oden To Probably Miss The Season
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
The Portland Trail Blazers have scheduled a news conference for Thursday afternoon to announce that the Number One Pick in the 2007 NBA Draft will most likely miss the upcoming NBA season. Former Ohio State center Greg Oden had microfracture surgery Thursday to repair damage in his right knee. He was originally getting an arthroscopic exploratory procedure to see why he was having discomfort in the knee. When the surgeons saw the extent of the damage, they performed the much more complex operation. Portland Team Doctor Don Roberts performed the surgery and said the prognosis was positive. Roberts said because the damaged area was relatively small, that the rest of the knee is structurally sound and Oden being so young he is hopeful for a full recovery.
Oden will be on crutches, for about the next eight weeks, and then the rehabilitation process will begin. Make no mistake about it this could be a career threatening, or at the very least a career altering move. With all the leaping that a NBA center has to do, despite Dr. Roberts optimistic view?it remains to be seen if Oden’s surgically repaired knee will be able to handle the stress of an 82 game season plus the playoffs.?Especially supporting his 7′ frame, it will be asking a lot for him to?come back as good as new.
