Hornets Sign Melvin Ely

The New Orleans Hornets Thursday introduced their newest member, veteran big man Melvin Ely. Terms of the deal were not revealed. Ely spent his 2006-2007 season going from the outhouse to the penthouse as he was traded midway through the year from the Charlotte Bobcats to the San Antonio Spurs. Ely was originally selected with the number 12 pick by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2002 NBA Draft. He stayed there for two years before signing as a free agent with the Bobcats in the summer of 2004. New Orleans General Manager Jeff Bower said that Ely is a proven big man that will add depth to their frontcourt.
