Batista Becomes Hot Commodity After FIBA Games
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
Last season Atlanta Hawks center Esteban Batista picked up more splinters sitting on the bench than anything else. The first NBA player born in Uruguay after playing 57 games as a rookie, only participated in 13 games last year. He wasn’t hurt and Atlanta was not in any sort of playoff chase that they had to have battle tested veterans{which they have very few of by the way}on the floor to keep them in the hunt. with Batista becoming a free agent at the end of the season it looked like the 6′10″ center who signed with the Hawks before the?2005-2006 season as a free agent did not figure to be part of Atlanta’s future.
Well that was before the FIBA Americas Championship Tournament held in Las Vegas last month. Batista playing for Team Uruguay opened some eyes in the NBA with his toughness and his ability to bang. Now according to Batista’s agent there are four teams very interested in signing his client, most prominently the Boston Celtics. And, oh yeah now Atlanta has shown?interest in Batista as well. As Joni Mitchell sang “Don’t it always seem to go, that you don’t know what you got till its gone?”
