Kirilenko Wants To Play In Russia This Season
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
The Salt Lake City Desert Morning News reported Wednesday that Utah Jazz forward wanted out of Utah. Friday the paper reported how far from Utah, he wanted to be, in his native Russia! Kirilenko?who last weekend led the Russian National Team to the FIBA Euro-Basket Tournament Championship, apparently felt a strong sense of belonging playing with his country men. He told the Russian newspaper the Sports Express that the emotion he felt over the weekend convinced him that he wanted to play in Russia in front of Russian supporters. Kirilenko who was named the Tournament MVP has been with Utah since the 2001-2002 season. He is the team’s highest player scheduled to make $13.1 million in the upcoming campaign. Kevin O’Connor Utah’s Vice President of Basketball Operations has made it clear that the Jazz expect Kirilenko to be at training camp when it opens. Kirilenko would need to get permission from FIBA in order to play with any Russian team in the upcoming season, which is pretty unlikely to happen.
