Sports Illustrated NBA writer Ian Thomsen is reporting, that former NBA head coach Larry Brown came very close this summer to taking a job as an assistant coach with the Boston Celtics. Brown who spoke with the writer, said he told Boston head coach Doc Rivers that he was 90% sure about taking the position when the two spoke in July. Brown who is currently an executive Vice President in charge of Basketball with the Philadelphia 76ers said he decided to turn down the offer after talking with Sixers owner Ed Snider who convinced him to stay with the club. Brown has been out of coaching after being fired by New York Knicks General Manager Isiah Thomas, after the 2005-2006 campaign. Brown was on a multi-year deal, but the Knicks were so dysfunctional that season he was fired after only one season. Brown was a candidate for the Celtics head coach job, and thought he had it, when Boston hired former Kentucky coach Rick Pitino instead.
