The NBA announced Wednesday that they were naming former NBA referee Bernie Fryer to the post of Assistant Director of Officials as well as Crew Chief Coordinator. He will be second in command to the NBA’s Director of Officials Ronnie Nunn. Fryer who retired as a referee last June is one of only three men in League history to both play and officiate in the NBA {the other two men are Leon Wood, and Stan Stutz.} Fryer was in the NBA for a total of 28 years two as a player. He was drafted by the Phoenix Suns in the 1972 NBA Draft, but never played for them. He made his NBA debut the following season playing for the Portland Trail Blazers.
