A Good Day For Marcus Williams, But A Bad Day for Marcus Williams
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
In one of the most ironic events this reporter can remember in NBA recent history, Saturday was a day of joy for Marcus Williams, and a day of frustration for Marcus Williams. Totally confused yet? I thought so! You see we are actually talking about two different NBA players with the same name Marcus Williams! Let’s start with the bad news first, the New Jersey Nets Marcus Williams as we reported on Friday will undergo surgery Monday to repair damage in his right foot. The second year guard has a break of the fifth metatarsal of his right foot, no word on how the injury occurred. The University of Connecticut product played in 79 games last season for New Jersey getting 6.8 points, and 3.3 assists per contest being named to NBA All Rookie Second Team. New Jersey will provide further information after completion of the surgical procedure.
Now the San Antonio Spurs Marcus Williams who was the team’s second round pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, signed a deal with San Antonio according to the team. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Williams a 6′7″ forward spent two years at the University of Arizona was awarded First Team All PAC-10 Honors last season. He was number four in scoring in the conference with 16.6 points, and eighth in the conference in rebounds with 6.7 boards per game and recorded four double-doubles. He played in the Las Vegas Summer League, as well as the Summer league in Salt Lake City.
