LBJ To Cavaliers: I Need Andy And Sasha
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
NBA Training Camps open Monday, and in Cleveland the reigning Eastern Conference Champions the Cleveland Cavaliers will be having their annual Media Day. Well two members of last year’s squad will not be in camp, will not be in Cleveland, and reportedly are not in the USA. The Sporting News reported on Monday that shooting guard Sasha Pavlovic, and forward Anderson Varejao both free agents remain unsigned, and their future unclear at this time.? The Sporting News stated that Pavlovic is reportedly in Europe, and Varejao is said to be working out in Brazil.
And according to the publication the his two?teammates from last season being M.I. A. is not sitting well with the hub of the Cavaliers wheel All-Star forward LeBron James. The publication quotes James as saying, that he is not thrilled the team made so little activity during the off-season. He also made it clear in no uncertain terms that in his mind he needs?Pavlovic and Varejao on the team! And he said he needs?not just one of them but both of them in order to go as far or?further than they?did last season. Reports state that Varejao’s representatives turned up their noses at a reported offer of?4 seasons for a total of $20 million. There were reports earlier this Summer that the Memphis Grizzlies offered Varejao a 5 year $45 million dollar pact, but then went after free agent Darko Milicic instead.
The Cavaliers made two minor acquistions over the weekend, getting forward?Cedric Simmons from the Hornets in a trade for guard David Wesley, and signing free agent guard Devin Brown. But neither of these two players are adequate subsitutes for Andy, and Sasha. A week ago in this column this reporter chastised Cleveland Cavaliers General Manager Danny Ferry for not signing the to players and bringing them back in the fold. I somehow have the feeling that LeBron James making the same statements will carry just a little more weight with the Cavaliers franchise than mine did. It’s just a hunch, but I think you can safely bet the house on the fact that one of the?uppermost duties in Danny Ferry’s job description is “Keep LeBron happy.” For as any NBA observer can plainly see as?James goes so go the Cavaliers!
