Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
The Newark Star Ledger’s Dave D’ Alessandro (one of the best NBA beat guys in the nation in this observer’s opinion) reported on Thursday that veteran point guard Darrell Armstrong will be signing a deal with the New Jersey Nets. Armstrong who was cut by the Indiana Pacers on Monday will be the backup, to Jason Kidd will sign a partially guaranteed contract according the reports said to be for $1.2 million later this week. Armstrong cleared waivers Wednesday night and was contacted shortly afterwards by New Jersey coach Lawrence Frank. According to the player’s agent he agreed two hours later.
Armstrong the 39 year old 13 season veteran did not figure into the Pacer’s plans according to sources close to the situation. Armstrong spent one season with the Pacers playing in 81 games, averaging 5.6 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per contest. He came into the NBA with the Orlando Magic in the 1994-1995 season and played for them through the 2002-2003 campaign. Armstrong then spent two years with New Orleans and two years with Dallas before going the Pacers last year.
