Houston Off Knicks Roster Ends Comeback Attempt
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
New York Knicks guard Allen Houston released a statement posted on NBA.com stating that he was ending his comeback attempt with the New York Knicks.? Houston had been out of the league since the end of the 2004-2005 campaign and was attempting a return with New York. However the statement in this observer’s viewpoint left a lot of questions unanswered. Here is the statement in it’s entirety:?”After much consideration, I have decided to end my comeback with the Knicks,? While my body and my knees, in particular, feel fine, I know what is required for me to be truly effective in the NBA again, and it involves a timing and progression that would not be fair to Isiah and the Knicks right now. With the season opening less than two weeks away, I think it is best for the team to move on without me. I appreciate the opportunity that Isiah and the Knicks have given me, and I wish the team nothing but success.”
Now it was not a very well hidden secret that Knicks owner James Dolan wanted Houston to get the tryout. New York coach Isiah Thomas who was a teammate of Houston’s during Houston’s rookie year with the Detroit Pistons, was not enamored with the?idea. He did not dress Houston for a game earlier this week, even though there was nothing physically wrong with the player. Thomas also seemingly dismissed the chances of the veteran making the team for the regular season debut each time he talked with the media. Thomas also?was not pleased with the fact that Houston came into camp two weeks after it started.
The way I am interpreting Houston’s statement, is he would be willing and able to try to complete his comeback with another NBA team. Although there is nothing in this statement, that says Houston felt pressured to move on my sources close to the Knicks say that was what precipitated the player’s statement. Do not be surprised to see Houston surface with another team in the next few days.
