Stoudamire Named Grizzlies Starting Point Guard
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
Sometimes life has a way of working things out the right way, just ask Memphis Grizzlies veteran point guard Damon Stoudamire. A few weeks before NBA training camps opened there were rumblings from sources close to the 12 year veteran that said he wanted out of Memphis. He believed with the bevy of guards that the Grizzlies had he would be reduced to an afterthought, and would get very little playing time. Well on the eve of the NBA regular seaon things have taken a 180 degree return for Stoudamire. The Thursday edition of the Memphis Commercial Appeal reported that Grizzlies coach Marc Iavaroni has named Stoudamire as his starting point guard for the regular season. Kyle Lowry will be Stoudamire’s primary backup, and Mike Conley Jr. who was the fourth selection in the 2007 NBA Draft will be third on the depth chart. If you are a regular reader of mine, then you know what a high opinion I have of the former Ohio State point guard from what he displayed in the 2007 NCAA tournament. To me he is a superstar waiting to happen. Do not be surprised if by mid-season Conley has climbed rapidly within the Grizzlies rotation.
