It’s OPENING DAY In The NBA!!!
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
If you are “basketball junkies” as we are here at Slam Dunk Central.com, you really had an off-season in which you were able to get your “fix” frequently. Not long after the NBA Draft, came the Las Vegas Summer League. Just a few weeks later came the FIBA Americas Championship also held in Las Vegas, as Team USA walked away with the Gold, and an automatic seed in next Summer’s Olympics which will take place in Bejing. Not long after that were the FIBA Euro-Games held in Spain. And almost as soon as that was over NBA training camps opened up, and the exhibition season started. This preseason, the matches had a decidely International flavor as games were held in London, China, and Spain.
But all that is behind us now as the NBA season officially opens on Tuesday. There will be three games played including a nationally televised double-header on TNT. The first game of the twin-bill features 2007 NBA Champions the San Antonio Spurs who will host the Portland Trail Blazers, and receive their Championship Rings from NBA Commissioner David Stern. The nightcap will have the Los Angeles Lakers who as of this writing still have disgruntled superstar Kobe Bryant on their roster. They will host the Houston Rockets at the Staples Center. The third game on the docket will also be played on the West Coast as Golden State hosts Utah in a rematch of last season’s Western Conference semi-finals series. The Jazz defeated the Warriors in that series, a fact that has probably reverberated in the Golden State players heads all off-season.
Opening Day for the NBA is also a huge day for Slam Dunk Central.com. We came into existence back on May 24, and this reporter literally had to hit the ground running as he found himself covering the Cleveland games of the NBA Finals for our website. This will be our first full season here at SDC and we are very excited about the season, and the changes that are undergoing on this site. One new feature that was brought in by our technical department(the folks who do most of the work and get none of the glory!) is our NBA Scoreboard which you will find located on our sidebar. This is a great toy as you are updated in real time, of every point scored in NBA Games! Another exciting addition will be our new reporter Steve Rhodes, a passionate writer with an encyclopedic knowledge of Sports. You may already be familiar with Steven from his work with our sister site www.nflgridirongab.com . Steven will be a huge asset to us here at SDC and we are sure you will soon learn to become big fans of his writing. And with this reporter’s network of other members of the media, as well as NBA players, you never know who will drop by for an audio interview. We have come a long way since May 24, 2007, and most of all we appreciate you the reader’s support as we have gone through our infancy. But things will only keep getting better here at Slam Dunk Central.com so keep your browser locked right here for the latest information in the NBA.
