Mavericks Bring In Veteran Howard
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
When NBA veteran power forward Juwan Howard arrived at training camp with the Minnesota Timberwolves, he respectfully but firmly told him he did not belong on the team. The T-Wolves are in a rebuilding mode, after trading away the franchise forward Kevin Garnett to Boston. Howard who is heading into the final turn of his NBA career wanted to be with a contender. Last week, the Timberwolves put Howard on waivers for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release. He will clear waivers on Wednesday and the sign a contract with the Dallas Mavericks his second stint with the team. The Mavericks announced the deal Tuesday, Dallas center DJ Mbenga who has been with the team for three seasons will be released to make room for Howard on the roster. The 13 year veteran was traded to the T-Wolves in June from the Houston Rockets with whom he played for the last three seasons. Howard played for Washington from 1994-1995 through 1999-2000. He then played for Dallas and Denver for two seasons each before playing for Orlando from 2003-2004, and then heading to Houston.
