No Treats For Cleveland Fans As Mavs Have Lots Of Tricks Beat Cavs 92-74
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
The Cleveland fans at the Q Arena saw a horror show on Halloween night, as the Cleveland Cavaliers were victimized by the visiting Dallas Mavericks 92-74. And this game was not as close as the final score indicated. The Cavaliers dressed in their Pumpkin Orange throwback uniforms were ripe for the picking, and Dallas never let up.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you Cleveland fan, after Friday night’s loss to Boston in the final preseason game I predicted doom and gloom. My warning that night was unless LeBron James could account for a double-double on a nightly basis, Cleveland would lose more games than they win. And the season opener for Cleveland just validated my prediction. Dallas dominated from the jump leading 29-15 after the first quarter, and things would only get worse for the crowd at the Q.
Veteran guard Jason Terry came off the bench for the Mavericks and led all scorers with 24 points. He went 7-12 from the field and an incredible 6-8 from outside the arc!?Three of the five Dallas starters were in double figures as Jerry Stackhouse had 17, Dirk Nowitzki had 15, and point guard Devin Harris had 13 points and 5 assists.
James did not have a good night as he shot 2-11 from the field and 6-10 from the line for 10 points far below his norm. He also had only 5 rebounds and only 4 assists. Speaking of assists, last week I chastised Cleveland for getting only 16 assists for an entire game two nights in a row. On Halloween they did not end up with 16, no they ended up with 13, a shameful total for a NBA Franchise. Zydrunas Ilgauskas led Cleveland with 17 points and Drew Gooden had 12.
If this sorry excuse for a game is not enough to convince Cleveland Cavaliers General Manger Danny Ferry that he must go out immediately and acquire a point guard, than Ferry is not as sharp as I think he is. Cleveland will have many games like the season opener until the team gets a legitimate quarterback.
