Minnesota Timberwolves guard Randy Foye Minnesota Timberwolves guard Rashad McCants

SportsTicker is reporting this afternoon that the Minnesota Timberwolves exercised the third-year contract option on guard Randy Foye and the 4th-year option on G Rashad McCants.  Foye, the 7th overall draft pick in the 2006 draft, averaged 10.1 PPG, 2.7 RPG and 2.8 APG last season; unfortunately, he will be out indefinitely at the start of this season  with a stress reaction to his left knee.

McCants was the 14th overall selection in the 2005 draft but has been considered a disappointment in his first 2 seasons in Minnesota, averaging only 7 PPG and 1.6 RPG during that span.  The Timberwolves believe that both will be an integral part of their current rebuilding process, with team vice president of basketball operations Kevin McHale adding, “We expect both Randy and Rashad to be a big part of our future.  Randy is coming off of a season in which he was named to the NBA All-Rookie first team and showed he has the talent to be a very good NBA player.  Rashad has worked extremely hard over the past year to return from injury and continues to improve every day.  We believe that he will return to the form he showed the second half of his rookie season. Both of these guys are key pieces to the young core of players we are building around.”
