Timberwolves, F/C Jefferson agree to extension
Posted by Sujeet under Main
Wednesday night at 11:00 PM held a lot of meaning for a lot of NBA teams, as that is the deadline to sign extended contracts to players; the Minnesota Timberwolves were no exception. Jerry Zgoda of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that the team has signed forward/center Al Jefferson to a 5-year, $65 million contract extension that keeps the centerpiece of last summer’s Kevin Garnett trade in Minnesota through 2013.
Timberwolves vice president of basketball operations Kevin McHale said in a statement, “We’re thrilled to have Al be a cornerstone for the Timberwolves for years to come. Al is only going to continue to get better.” What more than likely hastened the extension signing was the preseason play of Jefferson, as he averaged 17.9 PPG and 13.4 RPG in 8 games. This season, Jefferson will make $2.48 million; the extension starts at the beginning of the 2008-09 season.
