In my previous blog, I mentioned about Pacers head coach Jim O’Brien and the message he had relayed to his team, which was not to pass up an open shot.? Based on tonight’s results, it would appear that they took the message to heart as the Pacers defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 121-111.? Indiana shot 52% from the floor; however, they stunk from 3-point range, going 4-for-18 (22%).
Memphis, which never led in this contest, had a chance to cut into Indiana’s lead by cutting it down?to less than double-digits during the late third period.? However, Indiana scored 9 consecutive points to build the lead to 16.? The Grizzlies made one last run midway through the 4th period which cut the Pacers’ lead to 105-101.? But a basket by Pacers guard-forward Mike Dunleavy and a pair of baskets by forward-center Ike Diogu ended the Grizzlies’ streak and gave Indiana an insurmountable lead.
Six Pacers scored in double-figures, led by Dunleavy with 27 points and 8 rebounds, with forward Danny Granger adding 23 and point guard Jamaal Tinsley adding 14 and 7 assists.? ?Memphis also had 6 players in double-digits, led by rookie point guard Kyle Lowry woth 19 points, along with F Pau Gasol with 18; forward Mike Miller chipped in 14.? Indiana (3-0) will rest until Wednesday, November 7 when they host the Los Angeles Clippers while the winless Grizzlies (0-2) do not play again until Wednesday as well, when they travel to Seattle to face the SuperSonics.
