Pinpoint shooting elevates Mavericks over Kings 123-102

Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki, right, drives against Sacramento Kings John Salmons (15) during the first half of the Sacramento Kings-Dallas Mavericks game played Saturday night; Dallas defeated Sacramento 123-102.?

Even though it is very early in the NBA season, it is almost a safe assumption that the Sacramento Kings have issues, whether it is injuries or legal.? But even a healthy Kings squad tonight couldn’t stop the offensive juggernaut known as the Dallas Mavericks as the Mavs shot a whopping 66.2% from the field as they slammed the Kings in their home opener 123-102.The 66.2% the Mavericks shot from the floor was just shy of the team-best mark, set in 1983 (67.7%).? Mind you, the Kings shot well themselves, shooting exactly 50%.?

But it was obviously the Mavericks’ night as everything they shot fell through the basket (or so it seemed).? The Mavericks were led by guard Josh Howard, who had returned from a suspension; he scored 27 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and gave out 5 assists.? Rookie point guard Jose Barea added 25 and forward Dirk Nowitski chipped in 24.? The Kings had only three players in double-digits, led by guard Kevin Martin with 28 points.? G/F John Salmons added 27 while G Francisco Garcia contributed 23.? Dallas (2-1) plays again on Monday when they host the Houston Rockets while the winless Kings (0-3) return to Sacramento; they play again on Tuesday when they try to get their first win against the Seattle SuperSonics.
