Cassell’s 35 keeps Clippers unbeaten, beat Pacers 104-89

The Los Angeles Clippers remain among the unbeaten, thanks to a clutch performance by point guard Sam Cassell.? Cassell’s 35 points helped the Clippers beat the Indiana Pacers at their home, 104-89.? But the Clips’ win came with a price; guard Cuttino Mobley left the game with a groin injury with 6:41 left in the first quarter and did not return.

Indiana went on an 18-2 run late in the first quarter to early in the second quarter to take a 30-24 lead; the Pacers led 58-55 at halftime.? In the 3rd quarter, the Clippers had a 68-67 lead then proceeded to go on a 14-0 run, which included 7 points by Cassell.? The Clippers led 87-72 at the end of 3 periods.? A jumper by Pacers center Jeff Foster reduced the Clippers’ lead to 11 with 7:03 left in the game, but a basket by Cassell and a 3-pointer by Los Angeles forward Tim Thomas pushed the Clippers lead to 95-79, a lead they would never relinquish.

Cassell’s 35 led all Clippers’ scorers, with swingman Corey Magette adding 18 and center Chrius Kaman contributing 15 and even more impressive – 22 rebounds – high rebound total for any NBA player this season.? Indiana was led by forward Danny Granger with 16 points, with Mike Dunleavy adding 15.? The Clippers (4-0) next fly to Detroit to challenge the Pistons on Friday while Indiana (3-1) travels to Charlotte to face the Bobcats.?
