Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
The Houston Rockets are now 4-1 after getting what may be their most satisfying victory of the young NBA season. One night after suffering their first defeat at the hands of fellow Texans the Dallas Mavericks, they returned the favor to the third of Texas’ three NBA teams. Houston beat defending NBA Champs the San Antonio Spurs 89-81 Tuesday night giving the Spurs their first loss of the campaign.
This was the “Yao Show” as Rockets center Yao Ming just dominated the action scoring 28 points and grabbing 13 rebounds dishing off six assists and blocking three shots.?Bonzi Wells came off the bench for Houston to score 14 points and a game high 15 rebounds. Tracy McGrady had 12 points 9 boards and 6 assists in the win.
Manu Ginobili scored 23 points but had a far below average night in assists with only 3 and 2 rebounds. He did however commit five steals. Tony Parker had 21 for San Antonio but for him a lackluster night in assists with 5 and 1 rebound. Meanwhile Tim Duncan had 14 points and 10 rebounds while Michael Finley scored 10 in the loss. The Rockets had lost the four previous games between the two teams in Houston.
