So Close And Yet So Far Away Wizards Lose To Nets 87-85

Richard Jefferson has been a key?weapon for the New Jersey Nets this young NBA season, but especially Thursday night. The Nets forward scored 25 points including two game winning free throws to allow New Jersey to squeak by the Washington Wizards 87-85. Jefferson shot the pair at the charity stripe with 24 seconds remaining. Antoine Wright playing stellar defense forced Wizards star Gilbert Arenas to take desperation shot off balance, and there was your game.
The Wizards came out strong at the jump winning the first quarter by an impressive 27-15 margin, and going into the locker room at the half still ahead 41-36. The Nets were able to cut the lead to one point at the end of the third, as Washington led 58-57, but New Jersey scored 30 points in the final quarter for the victory.
Vince Carter scored 24 for the Nets, and Bostjan Nachbar who was so impressive in the preseason had 14, while Jamal Magliore had 12 rebounds. Antawn Jamison led Washington with 24 points and 9 rebounds, Arenas had 21 points, 6 assists and 4 boards, and Caron Butler also had 21, with 7 rebounds. The Wizards are still looking for that elusive first win coming out of the gate at 0-4, New Jersey is now 4-1.
