Denver Nuggets forward Nene

The Denver Nuggets are yet again the recipient of the injury bug this season.  The Associated Press is reporting that forward Nene is expected to miss up to six weeks due to a torn ligament in his left thumb.  Nene was injured Wednesday night in the Nuggets’ loss to the Boston Celtics.  He saw a hand specialist on Thursday and will receive surgery on Friday.

As previously mentioned, the Nuggets have been hampered by injuries; to date, they have lost 3 point guards: Michael Wilks (hamstring), Anthony Carter (broken hand) and Chucky Atkins (groin).  That’s not to mention power forward Kenyon Martin, whose minutes on the court are being monitored after having his knee operated on last year.  One must wonder if the Nuggets will have to resort to dipping into either the D-League talent pool or sign a free agent to a 10-day contract at some point in time to lend help to the point guard position.
