Celtics Clip Hawks Wings 106-83
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
The Boston Celtics have started the NBA season 4-0, the last time it happened was back in the 1987-1988 season. That team made it to the Eastern Conference Finals before losing to the?Detroit Pistons. It was the first time since 1984, the Celtics were not in the NBA Finals. It would be the last time a team with Larry Bird, Robert Parish, and Kevin McHale would make it that far in the post season.
If 1987-1988 was the beginning of the end of the “Big Three” then this is the beginning of the beginning of the “Elite Three.” It remains to be seen whether Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce can bring one championship to the Celtics never mind three like the 1980’s team did. But one thing for sure Friday night the “New Garden” sounded an awful lot like the old place, as Boston just trounced the Atlanta Hawks 106-83.
The “Big Ticket” Kevin Garnett led the Boston charge with 27 points, 19 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 blocked shots, and a steal. Paul Pierce who seems rejuvenated with his new running mates scored 23, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, Eddie House scored 19 off the bench? and Ray Allen had 14 points. Boston scored over 61% from the field and 60% from outside the arc (6-10).
Atlanta is starting to build themselves a real nice nucleus?a lot of young up and coming players. Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, Josh Childress, Tyrone Lue, and rookie Al Horford. But the?Celtics?far outmatched them in this game. Johnson and Horford each had 16 for?Atlanta while Marvin Williams scored 14 in the loss.??The Hawks now are at 2-3 in the young season.
