The Memphis Grizzlies pulled off the shocker of the young NBA season as they defeated the Houston Rockets Tuesday night 105-99. Houston has been one of the dominant teams in the league so far this season while Memphis went into the game with a 1-4 record, compared to the Rockets 6-1 mark. It was definitely a game of extremes, as Houston won the first half 53-49 but the Grizzlies came roaring back in the second half to get the victory.
Houston Rockets guard Tracy McGrady had a monster game scoring 41 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, center Yao Ming had 22 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 assist, and 1 blocked shot. Veteran guard Mike James came off the bench with 10 points, but nobody else came close to double figures.
Memphis shot 50% from the field for the game, but hit only 1-11 from outside the arc. Pau Gasol led four of five starters in double figures, with 26 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, Darko Millicic also had a big game for the Grizzlies scoring 20 points, 2 steals, 2 blocked shots. The only starter not to score in double digits was Damon Stoudamire who was scoreless going 0-4 from the field. Stoudamire, did have 6 assists, 2 rebounds, and a steal though.
