After Wednesday night’s NBA schedule which featured 13 contests, the NBA only has two games scheduled for Thursday. The first game features to of the league’s power houses, the second game features two teams that seem at least at the start of the season to be heading in two different directions. Both games will be nationally televised on TNT.

The first game features the match up that most NBA observers expected to see in the Western Conference Finals last season. The San Antonio Spurs made the dance, but the Dallas Mavericks lost their spot at the party, suffering a first round defeat at the hands of the Golden?State Warriors. These are two of the best teams in the Western Conference, yet play two totally different types of Basketball. The Spurs are the classic half-court team, although they can run when they want to. But they may be the most fundamentally sound team in the entire NBA. The Dallas Mavericks, are the polar opposite, a run and gun team plays very little defense, filled with a lot of pure young athletes.?Dallas usually is very successful in the regular season but the playoffs have a different conclusion for the Mavs. You have to play half court basketball in the Finals, that is why San Antonio has been so successful.

?A team that plays quite like Dallas, is the Phoenix Suns, who match up against the Chicago Bulls in the second game. Phoenix of course has the Mavericks’ former point guard in Steve Nash, Leandro Barbosa, Shawn Marion, and Amare Stoudemire make for an imposing team . Chicago, were expecting huge seasons out of the group of Gordon, Deng, and Hinrich, so far all have played below par. Last year a lot of observers were saying Scott Skiles was the next hot young coach in the league. That talk has stopped this year. Chicago takes the floor in Phoenix with a 1-5 record, The Suns stand at 7-2.
