Kwame, Down And Out In L.A. After Suffering Injury
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
Los Angeles Lakers center Kwame Brown according to reports out of L.A. is on the inactive list after getting injured in a game Sunday against the Chicago Bulls. Brown sprained the medial collateral ligament in his left knee, a MRI test confirmed the diagnosis. The Lakers are setting no timetable at this point for the center’s return to playing.
Brown was the number one pick of the 2001 NBA Draft by the Washington Wizards coming straight out of high school. The league drafted a lot of high school players that year in the first round. Among others picked in the top ten, Tyson Chandler, Eddy Curry, and DeSaganna Diop. Only Curry has had really any consistency in the NBA. Brown was berated by then teammate/General Manager Michael Jordan for not playing with enough fire. After playing his first four seasons with the Wizards, Brown came to the Lakers for the 2005-2006 season. Brown’s career stats are underwhelming at best, averaging 7.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game through out his career.
Ironically Brown got his first start of the campaign on Sunday. The Lakers had been starting Andrew Bynum, and he most assuredly will go back to the starting position. Los Angeles also has a more than adequate backup center in Chris Mihm. The Lakers will be in Indiana Tuesday night to take on the Pacers.
