There were a lot of upsets Monday night in the NBA, but maybe none stranger than this contest as the Minnesota Timberwolves shocked the New Orleans Hornets Monday 103-94. Coach Byron Scott’s bunch, the Hornets are a young up and coming team led by one of the best young point guards in the NBA, Chris Paul. Coach Randy Wittman’s bunch the T-Wolves are this year’s version of the NBA’s island of misfit toys. This once proud franchise built by Kevin McHale, has either decimated their roster or are in a rebuilding mode dependent on your side of the glass. They have some young talent with great potential, some aging out of shape veterans, and some problem children. All?figured prominently into Monday’s win.

Minnesota took a commanding lead at the end of the first quarter, 29-19, and they weren’t done. They led at the half, 58-37! Minnesota has had a habit this season of getting big leads and then not being able to hold on for the win. And even though the Hornets made a big surge in the second half, winning the half 57-45, the hole they were in was too deep to emerge from.

The Timberwolves were led by guard Marko Jaric who scored 21 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds, 2 steals.?The “problem child” Sebastian Telfair who has underwent controversy his entire NBA career scored 20 points, a team high 8 assists, 3 rebounds 1 steal. The “aging veteran” Antoine Walker who days before he was?traded from the Miami Heat had his then coach Pat Riley say walker would not be in NBA playing shape until January. Coming off?the bench for Minnesota, this game in November Walker scored 17 points, 5 rebounds, steals, 1?assist. Al Jefferson one of the key players Minnesota got in the Garnett trade had 14 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists. Craig Smith coming off the bench also had 10 points for the T-Wolves.

New Orleans was led once gain by Paul who had a game high 31 points, a game high 11 assists, and a game high 4 steals. Peja Stojakovic, had 17 points for the Hornets, Bobby Jackson came off the bench and scored 14, and David West had 10 points, and game high 14 rebounds.?This was only the second win of the season for Minnesota, their first on the road. Their record is now 2-10. while New Orleans drops to 10-6.
