Suns Scorch Knicks 115-104
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
Grant Hill had his best night in a Phoenix uniform, as both he and Amare?Stoudemire scored 28 points each,?as the Suns?defeated the New York Knicks Sunday 115-104. Hill scored 9 of his points in the last quarter, helping?Phoenix pull away from New York who had played competitively for the first three quarters of the contest.?
The Knicks who were embarrassed on TNT Thursday night getting obliterated by Boston,?helped redeem themselves in front of the MSG crowd Friday night. They mounted a stirring comeback to beat the?Milwaukee Bucks, and the crowd who had sounded vicious earlier in the night rose to their feet and cheered the Knicks at the end of the game. Although the MSG fans had no reason to cheer at the end of this contest, they certainly had no reason to boo. The Knicks showed effort all game long, and just lost to a superior team, one of the elite teams in the NBA. There is?no shame in that, it’s when the effort that is not there,?that is when?the fans have a reason and a right?to boo.
Hill had a monster game for the Suns, shooting 13-17? from the floor, including 1-2 from the three point mark, he had 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 steals. He did everything but drive the team’s bus to the arena. Stoudemire, along with his 28 points, had a game high 12 boards, 3 assists, 1 steal?1 blocked shot, Shawn?Marion and Leandro Barbosa each had 15 points, Marion with 8 rebounds. Raja Bell scored 12 points, and Stevie?Nash scored 9 points and had a game high 15 assists, for Phoenix.
The Knicks were down by 8 after the first quarter, but had cut the?lead to just 4 at the half trailing 61-57. And by the end of the third quarter New York had the lead down to just 1 point, before Phoenix broke the game open in the final period. New York had all five of their starters in double figures, as Eddy Curry and Stephon Marbury each had 21 points. Zach Randolph scored 19, and had a team high 10 rebounds, 5 assists, while Quentin Richardson scored 15 points, 9 rebounds, a team high 6 assists, 1 steal 1 blocked shot. David Lee scored 12 points off the bench and Jamal Crawford scored 10 in the loss. New York now has a record of 5-11, while Phoenix improves to 13-4.
