Bobcats Sign Varejao To Offer Sheet
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
The Associated Press is reporting that the Charlotte Bobcats Tuesday signed Cleveland’s restricted free agent Anderson Varejao to an offer sheet believed to be for a 3 year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed. The Cleveland Cavaliers now have one week to match the offer, or to work out a sign and trade. Varejao had rejected the Cavaliers’ qualifying offer of 1.2 million dollars during the off-season. Had he taken that offer and played this season out Varejao would have been an unrestricted free agent at the end of the campaign.
Varejao’s agent Dan Fegan proposed a 6 year pact to Cleveland reportedly worth 52 million dollars. The Cavaliers rejected the offer, causing the 25 year old Brazilian ballplayer to be on the sidelines one month into the season. Varejao is an “Energizer Bunny” type of the bench, bringing a jolt of adrenaline to a contest when he is put in. He also has some still raw skills, that have never fully developed. The Bobcats who fell to the Raptors Monday night have been in search of a big man all season.
