Lakers Trounce T-Wolves 116-95
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
Kobe Bryant quietly, and efficiently scored a game high 20 points as the Los Angeles Lakers kicked the Minnesota Timberwolves collective behind Tuesday night 116-95. The original Minnesota team the former Minneapolis Lakers controlled this contest from the start. The current Minnesota the T-Wolves were never able to get even close, as Los Angeles led 62-46 at the half, and it got worse from there.
If you are a student of the game, or are old enough to remember the Minneapolis Lakers (before my time, that’s saying a lot) there are some direct comparisons you can make between the two franchises. The?Lakers were built around one man the NBA’s first superstar center George Mikan. Mikan was such a draw, in the league at the time that when the Lakers came to MSG, the marquee read “George Mikan and?the Minneapolis Lakers“?which caused him to take endless grief from his teammates! The Timberwolves were also built around one player the “Big Ticket” Kevin Garnett, until T-Wolves owner Glen Taylor had an “Everything Must Go Sale” AKA undergoing rebuilding. Garnett, along with Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen have Boston with the best record in the NBA right now. Minnesota has one of the worst records in the NBA.
Bryant shot 6-12 from the floor, 2-5 from outside the arc, and 6-9 from the line , to go along with 5 assists, 4 steals, and 3 rebounds in just under 29 minutes of playing time. Sash Vujacic the fourth year guard who had a huge game against the Nuggets last month, came up big again. The 23 year old guard originally from Slovenia had 16 points, as he shot 5-9 from the field, hit all 3 treys he attempted, and went 3-3 from the line with 2 assists, 1 rebound. Four other players scored in double figures for Los Angeles, Trevor Ariza had 15 off the bench, Jordan Farmar?scored 13, Chris Mihm getting the start at center had 11 points, 7 rebounds, and Luke Walton scored 10.
The T-Wolves had 5 players in double figures, led by Sebastain Telfair who has taken advantage of more playing time with Minnesota, scoring 16 points. Rodney McCants scored 14 for the T-Wolves, while Craig Smith came off the bench to score 13 points. ?The young man who was the center piece of the Garnett trade, Al Jefferson had a double-double scoring 12 points, with 12 rebounds, and veteran Antoine Walker had 10, in in the loss. Los Angeles is now 10-8, while Minnesota is 2-14.
