Stoudemire’s 42 Enables Suns to Rally Past Pacers 121-117
Posted by Stephen Rhodes under Main

For a good amount of the Phoenix Suns-Indiana Pacers game, the Pacers kept up with the Suns - which is not an easy thing to do. But the Suns’ usual suspects - point guard Steve Nash and center Amare Stoudemire sealed the deal for Phoenix as the Suns escaped from Conseco Fieldhouse with a 121-117 win over the Pacers. The game, while technically a basketball game, resembled a track meet, as both teams combined for 193 shots. The track meet game involved several first-half lead changes with Stoudemire scoring 23 points as the Suns led 69-64 at halftime. Phoenix would lead 96-90 at the end of the third quarter after leading by 12 points midway through the 3rd period. However, the Pacers led by as many as 5 in the 4th quarter.
The Suns would rally in the game’s final minutes; Nash made 2 free throws to cut Indiana’s lead to 117-115, then he would make a 3-pointer with 42 seconds left to give Phoenix a 118-117 lead. Phoenix only used 8 players; 5 of them would score in double-figures, led by Stoudemire with a monster effort - 42 points and 13 rebounds. Nash had a strong game as well, scoring 18 while dishing out 17 assists. Grant Hill added 16, while Shawn Marion chipped in with 14 and grabbing 12 boards.
Indiana had 6 players in double-figures; Jermaine O’Neal led all Pacers players with his best effort this season thus far, scoring 30 points while grabbing 11 rebounds. Mike Dunleavy added 22, while Jamaal Tinsley contributed 19 and dished out 12 assists. Phoenix (14-4) flies to Canada to take on the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday, while Indiana travels to Florida to challenge the Orlando Magic on Friday night.
