Undermanned Knicks beat Nets 100-93
Posted by Stephen Rhodes under Main

Earlier in the season, the New York Knicks found ways to lose with a healthy, full roster. Wednesday, they somehow found a way to win minus two of their starters – guard Stephon Marbury and center Eddy Curry. But others stepped up, namely forward David Lee and guard Fred Jones, as the Knicks defeated the New Jersey Nets 100-93 at East Rutherford, NJ. But to be fair, the Nets were without a starter of their own; starting point guard Jason Kidd was missing, suffering from migraines.Knicks forward Zach Randolph made four baskets and scored 10 points in the first quarter, when New York led by 10 points before going into the 2nd quarter leading 26-18. The Nets didn’t shoot very well in the 2nd period, shooting only 29% from the floor; this prevented them from chipping into the Knicks lead. New York would lead at halftime 51-42. Knicks guards Jamal Crawford and Nate Robinson hit 3-pointers to begin the 4th quarter, pushing the Knicks lead to 80-66.
The Nets answered back with 9 straight points of their own, including a pair of 3’s by the Nets’ Bostjan Nachbar to get New Jersey to within 5. But Randolph scored and Jones scored 4 in a row, putting New York up for good 86-75. Crawford led the Knicks in scoring with 29 points and 7 assists; Randolph had a solid game with 25 points on 10-of-15 shooting, while Jones added 15. New Jersey was led by Richard Jefferson with 31 points, while Vince Carter added 19; Nachbar chipped in with 16. New York (6-11) now takes a short road trip to Philadelphia to take on the 76ers Friday night, while New Jersey (9-10) remains home to host the Houston Rockets, also on Friday night.
