Los Angeles Clippers center Chris Kaman is making a case for being a force in the Western Conference as an elite center; Kaman’s 12 points in the third period would prove important as the Clippers ended a seven-game losing streak by beating the Sacramento Kings on their homecourt.Sacramento got key contributions from both forward Ron Artest and F/C Mikki Moore; each scored 10 first-half points as the Kings held a 52-41 halftime lead. Kaman would add 12 third-quarter points of his own for the Clippers who would outscore Sacramento 30-18 to take a 71-70 lead into the 4th quarter. Los Angeles began the 4th quarter with 5 straight points and built their lead to 10 when F Corey Magette made 2 free throws for a 90-80 lead; Sacramento would get no closer than 8 the rest of the way.

Chris Paul is proving why he is one of the best point guards in the NBA; with 2 New Orleans Hornets players out due to injury, Paul put on his Superman costume as he scored a career high 43 points, leading the Hornets past the Memphis Grizzlies 118-116 in overtime. Which is odd in this sense - Memphis shot a blistering 55.7 % from the floor, but to be fair, New Orleans took many more shots than Memphis (101 shots taken by New Orleans to only 79 for Memphis).New Orleans led most of the game and were up 105-100 with just oiver two minutes to go in regulation. Memphis would then score 7 points beginning with Memphis forward Pau Gasol’s jumper. Grizzlies guard Kyle Lowry would then hit a pair of free throws and a driving layup to give Memphis a 106-105 lead before the Hornets’ Paul was hit with a technical foul, allowing Memphis’ Mike Miller to make a free throw.
Paul somehow managed to get fouled during the same possession, however, allowing Paul to hit the game-tying free throws; this led to the first overtime. Overtime was nip-and-tuck, until Paul’s layup with 1.8 secons left in OT helped seal the win for the Hornets. New Orleans was led by Paul with a moster game, scoring a career-high 43 points with 5 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals. David West would add 27 with 9 boards, while Tyson Chandler would pitch in with 13 and 19 rebounds.
Memphis was led by Rudy Gay with a solid but silent 31 points; Miller and Gasol would score 26 each, while Lowry would add 14 with 9 boards and 9 assists - just missing his first career triple-double. New Orleans (13-7) continues their homestand by hosting the Seattle SuperSonics Sunday, while Memphis (6-13) travels to Atlanta to take on the Hawks Saturday night.

Chicago Bulls center Ben Wallace did what a lot of players of their former teams would do: hugs, high-5’s and exchange pleasantries. Then Wallace put on his game face. The Bulls outhustled the Detroit Pistons by outrebounding them 51-39; that factored into the Bulls defeating the Pistons 98-91 at Detroit Friday.A stastically oddity occured during the first half - The Bulls’ Wallace and forward Joe Smith outrebounded the entire Pistons squad during the first half, yet Detroit was only down 45-43 at halftime. Chicago would change gears in the second half; they would hold onto a one-point lead starting the fourth quarter, but would score the first 7 points of the period to take a 79-71 lead with 9:30 remaining. Detroit guard Chauncey Billups would get hot; he scored 9 points in the next three minutes and as a result, narrowed the bulls lead to 83-80.
But Bulls’ reserve forward Andres Nocioni ended the Pistons run with a 3-point play, making the lead 86-80; the Bulls would hang on for the win after that episode. Chicago was led by Nocioni with 22 from off the bench, while Luol Deng added a quiet 17 with 9 rebounds. Wallace added a solid effort, pitching in 10 while grabbing 13 rebounds and blocking 4 shots. Detroit’s leading scorer was Billups with 27 with 4 rebounds and 7 assists; Richard Hamilton chipped in with 24 while Rasheed Wallace added 18, including 3-of-7 from beyond the 3-point arc. Chicago (6-11) returns home to host the Boston Celtics Saturday night, while Detroit (13-6) remains home to host the Charlotte Hornets Sunday.
