Late Roy Basket In OT Boosts Trail Blazers Past Bucks 117-113

Portland Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy’s late basket in overtime enabled the team to slip past the Milwaukee Bucks 117-113 at the Rose Garden Sunday. Portland shot a scorching 56.3% from the field (including 50% from beyond the 3-point arc) yer personal fouls and to a degree turnovers kept Milwaukee in the game.The Bucks were without forward Bobby Simmons for the second straight game for personal reasons. After trailing for much of the first quarter, Portland went on a 13-0 run that put them ahead 37-27 in the second period. The Bucks pulled to within 43-41 on Charlie Bell’s layup, but Blazers guard Steve Blake made a 3-pointer and Portland finished the half ahead 57-51. Milwaukee was trailing 66-59 when guard Mo Williams stole a pass and took it down the court for a jumper.
The Trail Blazers would then go on a 12-4 run to go up 78-65, capped by Martell Webster’s 3-pointer. The Bucks’ Williams would score a 3 to put Milwaukee ahead, then would add another 3-pointer to cap a 15-2 run and make the score 91-86. A layup by Milwaukee’s Michael Redd put the Bucks ahead 101-97 with 3:06 left in regulation. Blake’s 3 put the Blazers to within 2, but Milwaukee’s Andrew Bogut replied with a hook shot with less than a minute to go.
After Portland’s Roy made 2 free throws to narrow it again, the Blazers cashed in on a Milwaukee turnover and Portland’s LaMarcus Aldridge was fouled by Bogut; Aldridge made both free throws to tie the game with 15.2 seconds left. Overtime would find Milwaukee ahead 112-107; Portland’s Aldridge would make a jumper before fouling out and Travis Outlaw added a pair of free throws to narrow the Bucks’ lead to 112-111.
Redd would miss a 3-point attempt with 32.9 seconds to go in overtime; Roy would make a layup to give Portland a 113-112 lead. After Milwaukee’s Williams missed a layup, Portland’s Blake was fouled by Charlie Villanueva; Blake made 2 free throws to give Portland a 115-112 lead that they wouldn’t relinquish. Portland’s high scorer was Roy with 26 points with 8 rebounds and 9 assists; Aldridge added 24 and 4 blocked shots, while Outlaw poured in 20, including 14-of-16 from the free throw line. Blake chipped in with 19, including 4 three-pointers.
Milwaukee was led by Williams with 33, along with 4 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 three-pointers; Bogut added 21 while Villanueva chipped in with 19 and 9 rebounds. Michael Redd added a quiet 18. Portland (8-12) travels to Salt Lake City to take on the Utah Jazz Tuesday night, while Milwaukee (8-11) flies south to Sacramento to challenge the Sacramento Kings Monday night.

The Blazers are better then people are giving them credit for. Sure, they will be waiting for Odom until next yr, but Roy and Aldredge are the real deal. I’m going out on a limb here, I say Portland makes it as a 8 seed this yr!
