Ford Seriously Injured As Raptors Down Hawks 100-88
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
The Toronto Raptors defeated the Atlanta Hawks?Tuesday 100-88, but the win came at a terrible cost, as point guard T.J. Ford left the arena on a stretcher. Ford missed the entire 2004-2005 campaign recovering from spinal surgery. Ford was injured Tuesday as he was on the way to the basket when he was fouled by Hawks rookie Al Horford, who caught the point guard flush on the face with his hand. Ford fell backwards hitting his head on the floor with such impact that his head bounced off the floor. Ford never seemed to lose consciousness, but did not move as he was taken off the court via stretcher. As someone who has had two spinal surgeries himself within the past two years, I have been amazed not only that Ford is able to play in the NBA but at such an elite level. Our Thoughts and Prayers here at Slam Dunk Central go out to Ford, and we hope that the injury is far less severe than the way it appeared.
Atlanta had finally gotten back to the .500 mark at 10-10 after defeating Orlando Monday night and were riding a?3 game winning streak coming into this contest. The Hawks won the first quarter 21-19, but fell behind by the end of the half at 54-43. Atlanta was within one point at the end of the third quarter 69-68, but Toronto finished strong to take the win.?
Ford despite playing less than 30 minutes was the game’s high scorer with 26 points, and had a game high?8 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 steal. Chris Bosh had a double-double with 20 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, 1 blocked shot, Jose Calderon, scored 15 points, 7 assists, 2 rebounds, and Anthony Parker scored 12 points, 6 boards, 2 assists, 1 steal.
Joe Johnson and Marvin Williams each scored 23 points for Atlanta, Johnson added 5 assists?4 rebounds, while Williams had 6 rebounds 1 assist. Josh Childress came off the bench with 13 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and Horford had a double-double 10 points, 10 boards, 2 assists, 2 blocked shots. Toronto is now 12-10 after the win while Atlanta is now 10-11.
