Chauncey Billups again showed why he is still among the elite point guards in the NBA as he had a double-double, a game high?28 points, and a game high 14 assists as the Detroit Pistons beat the Memphis Grizzlies Tuesday 113-103. Four out of five of the Pistons starters scored in double figures as Detroit shot 50.6% from the floor for the game.
Pistons started out the first quarter on fire scoring 37 points, and opened up a 15 point lead at the end of the first quarter, and they led 61-48 at the half. Memphis never got over falling behind so far so early even as they had a strong fourth quarter scoring 29 points. But it was far too little too late as Detroit easily held on for the victory.
Billups shot 7-15 from the floor, 2-5 from outside the arc, and a perfect 12-12 at the charity stripe.?Along with the 14 assists, Billups pulled down 5 rebounds, and had 3 steals, committing just one turnover in over 38 minutes of play. Richard Hamilton scored 27 points, 5?rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal , 1 blocked shot, Tayshaun Prince scored 19 points, a team high 7 boards, 5 assists, 1 blocked shot, and Jason Maxiell scored 15 points, 5 rebounds, 1 blocked shot 1 assist.
Rudy Gay led the way for the Grizzlies, with?20 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal , 1 blocked shot. Pau Gasol scored 18 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, Kyle Lowry came off the bench and also scored 18 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 blocked shot. Hakim Warrick also had a nice game off the bench scoring 17, 6 rebounds, 1 steal, and Darko Milicic starting at?center for Memphis scored 12 points, and had 3 rebounds.?Detroit is now sporting a 15-6 record after the win while Memphis is now 6-15.
