Posted by Stephen Rhodes under Main

The San Antonio Spurs had some issues to deal with prior to playing the Golden State Warriors: dealing with the loss of Tim Duncan (sprained ankle) and keeping their 5-game winning streak alive against a resurgent Warrior club that has caught fire since an 0-6 start. But poor shooting and 21 team turnovers doomed the Spurs as Golden State defeated San Antonio 96-84 in front of a full house at Oracle Arena. The Spurs led 25-23 after the first quarter, but began the 2nd with making only 1 of their first 9 shots and didn’t score their third point until Spurs guard Manu Ginobili made a free throw with 5:06 left in the half. Bruce Bowen’s jumper at the 4:23 mark was only the Spurs’ second basket of the quarter. Golden State forward Al Harrington made a dunk with 6:29 left in the half and Stephen Jackson made a 3-pointer on the Warriors’ next possession to give them a 38-27 lead.
San Antonio would commit 8 turnovers in the 2nd quarter, shot 4-of-17 from the floor, and as a result, trailed 53-37 at halftime. The Spurs cut the Warriors’ lead to 81-70 on San Antonio forward Matt Bonner’s basket with 9:21 left to play in the game; Bonner would hit a 3 that would make the Warriors’ lead 83-74. But Warriors guard Baron Davis would score a basket moments later as Golden State would cruise to the win.
Golden State had 5 players in double-digits, led by Jackson with 20 points and 4 steals; Davis would add 18 with 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Matt Barnes and Kelenna Azubuike scored 16 each; Barnes added 8 boards and 4 assists while Azubuike cleared 9 boards. Andres Biedrins scored 14 points in only 18 minutes of floor time.
San Antonio was led by Matt Bonner with a strong game, scoring 25 points - including three 3-pointers - with 17 rebounds; Ginobili added 13 on 4-of-14 shooting, while Tony Parker had a subpar effort, scoring only 11 with 6 assists. Golden State (12-9) takes a short flight north to take on the Portland Trail Blazers Wednesday, while San Antonio (17-4) flies south to Los Angeles to take on the Lakers Thursday night.
